No. 6 Squadron RNZAF
The FLYING BOAT SQUADRON

No.6 Flying Boat Squadron was formed in Fiji, May 1943, and disbanded September 1945.
They flew PBY Catalinas, (affectionately known as 'Dumbos').

Squadron disbanded September 1945.

The squadron achieved considerable success with its
air sea rescues. Over 80 personnel were rescued
from various ditched aircraft,
(RNZAF, USMC, USN, USAAF pilots and crew).
